Initial Ideas.

I have been thinking about ideas for my Final major for a while and have gathered a range of weird and wonderful ideas to think about. Here is a selection of some initial ideas...

Television:

-Visual Identity of a new, fictional TV show. This could include logo, promotional posters, TV adverts/idents and press ads.

-Complete re-design and promotion campaign of an existing or fictional TV channel.
Examples: Rapture TV, Eat Cinema, Channel U, Bravo, Challenge, Men & Motors etc
Fictional example: Liverpool TV etc

Retail:

-Using (vector) illustrations on products such as T-Shirts, bags, caps, mouse mats, mugs etc
Online and/or high street store. Produce an identity for the company, TV/online ads, stationary and possible online games etc
Name ideas: 'Vectees'.
-Campaign for a shop or supermarket in need of a change.
Example: 'Matalan, the discount fashion retailer figures are expected to show sales falling by more than 5% in July and August as they struggle against competition from Primart, Tesco and Asda.' (Daily Mail: Sep 4th 2006)
-Campaign for a clothing company.
Example: Nike Festival of Air

-Postcard company: 'Ever wanted to send a postcard that was actually as unique as the message you are sending?

Music:

-Promote an upcoming music festival or event.

-CD sleeve and promotion for a new artist or band.
-Music Video.

Campaigns (important issues):

-Smoking Campaign. The forthcoming legalisation that aims to ban all smoking in public places.
Highlight the benefits of not smoking in a pub environment using a positive tone to make smokers realise the social benefits of not smoking.
Get unhooked
-Binge drinking: Same concept as above.
-Wildlife campaign. Illegal wildlife trade: Throughout the world, hundreds of millions of plants and animals, worth billions of pounds, are traded each year, impacting directly on the survival of many species in their natural environments. Create an advertising campaign highlighting this issue and what we can do to prevent it (possibly work with WWF)
-Recycling.

Website:

-Create appearance and brand identity for a new online music store to rival I-tunes.
Ideas: Microsoft music box, Sony song book etc

- Non-existent web service. An online service that doesnt currently exist but could be very helpful to alot of people.

I need to know more about?

You will need to evidence knowledge of key practioners, theories and developments related to the proposal's subject area and place the work that you wish to undertake within this knowledge.

I aspire to work in?

It should also take into account your future plans paying particular attention to the experience gained through work placement.

Below are areas of design that I am interested in and types of media that i may consider working in:

Motion graphics.
Offline promotion: Posters/Billboard advertising/Press ads.
Corporate identity and logo design.
Television adverts.
Online advertising.
Websites.

I particularly wish to do some online work but only have a limited knowledge on programmes such as flash. Because of this I intent to complete a flash training course lasting two days, during or before my final major project.

I am interested in?

The design proposal will need to evidence not only the project that you will wish to undertake but also knowledge and appreciation of the subject area in which it sits.

Below are a list of things I am interested in and may consider as a theme for my final major project:

Movies.
Title sequences.
T.V adverts.
Music.
Music videos.
Night clubs.
Alcohol.
Sport.
Football.
Swimming.
Animals.
African wildlife.
serengeti.
Contraversial issues:
Drugs/Violence/Sti's/Aids/Cancer.
Climate change.

I am good at?

This design proposal should take into account your experiences and skills, both practical and theoretical, gained over the last 3 years.

I have learnt a range of different ways to communicate ideas through various forms of media; but there are obviously going to be different methods that I have gained more experience and enjoyed doing more than others.

Good knowledge of Adobe Photoshop that will be used throughout my project, whatever I may decide to do.

Illustration: I would not class myself as an illustrator but I do enjoy creating vector illustrations ever now and then using Adobe Illustrator.

Motion Graphics Piece (visual and audio): Experience and knowledge of After effects, final cut pro and sound studio. Enjoy all motion graphics work I create and intend to use my knowledge at some point throughout my Final major project.

Online: Basic knowledge of Flash but am keen to create some online work, even if it just turns out to be a conceptual website.

Branding: Enjoy the whole corporate identity and branding aspect of a project so I am keen to incorporate this into my work if necessary.

Advertising: Enjoy all aspects of advertising and will be used throughout my project.
Posters, billboards, tv adverts/idents, flash banners ect.

Final Major Project Research

This unit involves the creation and substantiation of a design proposal for a final major project.

My final submission for this module will be a pitch presentation and workbook that will demonstrate how your proposed project will relate to theory, practice, culture, history, trends and your own skills and ambitions.

Theory:
the·o·ry
n. pl. the·o·ries
1. A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.
2. The branch of a science or art consisting of its explanatory statements, accepted principles, and methods of analysis, as opposed to practice: a fine musician who had never studied theory.
3. A set of theorems that constitute a systematic view of a branch of mathematics.
4. Abstract reasoning; speculation: a decision based on experience rather than theory.
5. A belief or principle that guides action or assists comprehension or judgment: staked out the house on the theory that criminals usually return to the scene of the crime.
